Es un tratado de teoría política escrito por Nicolás Maquiavelo en 1513, mientras este se encontraba encarcelado en San Casciano por la acusación de haber conspirado en contra de los Médici. El libro fue publicado en 1531 y dedicado a Lorenzo II de Médici, duque de Urbino, en respuesta a dicha acusación, a modo de regalo.1 Tiene ciertas inspiraciones en César Borgia. Se trata de la obra de mayor renombre de este autor, aquella por la cual se acuñaron el sustantivo maquiavelismo y el adjetivo maquiavélico y cuya influencia sigue vigente hasta la época actual.

Nacido en el seno de una familia noble empobrecida, Nicolás Maquiavelo vivió en Florencia en tiempos de Lorenzo y Pedro de Médicis. Tras la caída de Savonarola (1498) fue nombrado secretario de la segunda cancillería encargada de los Asuntos Exteriores y de la Guerra de la ciudad, cargo que ocupó hasta 1512 y que le llevó a realizar importantes misiones diplomáticas ante el rey de Francia, el emperador Maximiliano I y César Borgia, entre otros.
Roan seems like a real sexy sweetheart, and I wanted to just step into the storyline and tell Harriet what a fool she was for freezing him out continuously, lol! But this is what makes a person keep reading, to see how the storyline plays out.
I wanted to give this book 4 stars, but I didn't because I don't like the way Harriet was initiated into their marriage.
