This is an important resource for anyone who wants to use Chinese historical statistics. The author traces the evolution of China's Maritime Customs service, explains how the service compiled trade statistics, and shows readers how to obtain, organize, and interpret Customs statistics. The book includes a CD, with a large collection of Customs data in Excel spreadsheet format. China Maritime Customs, which operated on the mainland from 1859 through 1948, left a massive trove of statistical returns, business studies, and annual reports. These documents, produced in English and available to the general public, provide a comprehensive record of China’s shipping and trade--and of trade and commercial development in each ‘open’ port city and its hinterland. While national data are fairly easy to find in published compendia, using port-specific data generally requires delving into the original Customs documents. This book guides the reader through those documents, explainin
Editorial : From the Author From the "Postscript"-- "This book will have served its purpose if the reader, having decided to venture into the Chinese Customs Returns, finds the task less time-consuming and frustrating, and more productive and enjoyable, than would otherwise have been the case. I hope too that Part One of the book will serve as a useful guide to the evolution of China Maritime Customs and to its statistical practices and as a convenient pointer to further description and analysis. And I hope that Part Two will have value beyond its role as an example illustrating 'pitfalls' and ways to address them, standing also as a contribution to the study of tea, and trade, in Fujian."
Then they should use it regularly. I love it when I am in a story, with a great narrative, going smoothly (which this book does)
I hate it when I get to the end of the book, only to find that the story is not complete Usually when novels come out in multiple volumes, each story within each tends to stand well on its own. I finally packed it in and am just skimming now. If you know Esther or just want to read a heartwarming story of two men and their pig then I highly recommend this book. The pages are perforated so you can tear them out if you want. Hunter Miles & Kennedy Vaughan are the main couple in this book and boy, do they really bring the heat and the zing to this romance. A must-read for anyone who is fearful of flying. Denise and Alan Jackson turned to the Lord to help them do that. I will definately work my way through the book with growing confidence.. He begins with a summary of the instrumentation, publication history and early metronome marks of the symphonies.
